Before you Quit your Job for a Business - Read what i learnt!

Quitting your job to chase your dream sounds noble—and sometimes, it is. But if I could sit down with the version of myself who handed in that resignation letter with stars in her eyes and adrenaline in her chest, I’d say one thing:

Slow down you dont have to jump to be brave

I started my business with high hopes, good intentions, and a heart full of passion. But I also started it with no plan, no safety net, and no idea what was waiting for me on the other side of that leap.

The business failed. And while I don't regret trying, I do wish I had prepared better. So if you’re thinking of quitting your job to start a business, here’s what I learned—the hard way

     1. Passion is Fuel not a map

I thought loving my idea was enough, i was wrong. Running a business means marketing, budgeting, and sleeples nights. Passion got me started but i did not know where i was going to

What to do instead; Start planing while you are still employed, test yoour idea and build a side hustle. Validate demand, let passion inspire you but dont let it blind you.

   2. Stability is not the enemy

Quitting felt like freedom, until i realiseed i had traded one kind of pressure to the other. No income meant panic and panic meant poor decisions. Poor decisions? They are expensive.

What to do instead;  Save enought to cover 6 to 12 months of your living expenses. Having stability gives your business place to breath.

  3. You will wear every hat

In your job, you might have had a team, a manager, or even an assistant. As a solo business owner? You’re the boss, the marketer, the customer service rep, and the janitor

What to do instead; Learn basic skills early. How to write copy. Use Canva. Track invoices. Don’t expect perfection—just be willing to wear the hats.

4. Failure is not always a sign you are wrong

My business failed, but that doesnt mean i was wrong, it just means i started it the wrong way. And that is what you have to avoid.
What to do instead; Move with strategy not speed, let your business grow while you still have your income. You can build without breaking.
5. Growth can happen without burnout

You don’t have to crash to grow. I learned more from my failure than I did from my entire job history—but I wouldn’t wish that kind of burnout on anyone.

What you can do instead; Move with strategy, not speed. Let your business grow while you still have income. You can build without breaking

   Final Thought

Quitting your job to follow your passion isn’t always wrong—but doing it without a plan can turn that dream into a nightmare.

If you are standing at the edgeof that decision, am not here to stop you. I am just here to say; Build you Parachute before you jump.
